Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for establishing and maintaining surface product haulage and transport systems
   • Access, interpret and apply surface product haulage and transport systems documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Identify the requirements for, and purpose of, product haulage and transport systems in accordance with the system of mining or extraction
   • Identify systems options from an analysis of all relevant technical, operational and financial information
   • Identify specifications for the system from a comprehensive analysis of site needs
   • Select preferred systems options
2. Select equipment for surface product haulage and transport systems
   • Identify the requirements for, and purpose of, product haulage and transport equipment
   • Conduct a detailed scoping of the work requirement and develop key selection criteria
   • Develop specification documentation for the required product haulage and/or transport equipment
   • Select the preferred equipment solutions
   • Select and identify availability of resources, plant, tools and equipment
3. Establish installation and commissioning procedures
   • Establish procedures to identify hazards and analyse and evaluate risks
   • Develop and establish procedures for integrating new and existing site product haulage and transport systems and processes
   • Identify, confirm, establish and implement safe operating procedures
   • Develop and establish installation and commissioning procedures
   • Establish a program, including systems and procedures to satisfy identified training requirements
   • Establish emergency response and evacuation plans and procedures
4. Establish systems for the operation and maintenance of the systems and equipment

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient establishing and maintenance of surface product haulage and transport systems including:

accessing, interpreting and applying technical and mine survey information

accessing and analysing archival and historical failure information related to the mine

interpreting and applying mathematical and scientific theorems/laws related to stable mining systems

interpreting and applying design criteria for stable mining systems

interpreting computer spreadsheets and stable mining systems modelling/simulations

accessing data from monitoring systems and equipment

analysing and reporting on stable mining systems training needs

applying risk management processes and techniques

works effectively with others to establish and maintain surface product haulage and transport systems that meets all the required outcomes including:

consulting with surface mining team and provides team leadership

sharing information and communicating effectively in the workplace

establishing training, coaching and mentoring support for supervisors and managers

preparing written reports communicating the pit development status and outcomes

demonstrates completion of establishing and maintaining surface product haulage and transport systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

providing briefings and handing over details

conducting maintenance surveys

collecting, collating and interpreting data

selecting equipment for surface product haulage and transport systems

establishing installation and commissioning procedures

establishing systems for the operation and maintenance of the systems and equipment

establishing systems for audit and review of product haulage and transport systems and equipment

conducting enquiries/investigations and preparing reports
